I have been reading about boost creep and boost spiking alot.

I have a 04 WRX completely stock. Sometimes when I at WOT the boost will be smooth all the way up to about 6500 (haven't taken it to 7k yet). Then other times it seems like the boost level is changing because the car will have really sort "jerks" (very small). I don't have a boost gauge and I was wondering if this is common for a stock 04 WRX. I know the stage one on COBBs AP will smooth it out but do I have a bigger problem here.

i have an 02. I can feel short jerks with mine also. the power band has quite a few spots that are not smooth. i have 80k miles with no problems so far and yes the AP will smooth the powerband(from what i've heard cuz i can't afford one)

The small jerks are more than likely detonation(or where denonation was), the ecu has pulled timing in those area's to prevent it. Not uncommon at all for the '04-05 to have those issues. You can determine if it is by resetting the ecu, if it drives smoother, you're ecu learned around the detonation.

The AP should smooth thinks out quite a bit.

Get a boost gauge, you don't need anything fancy. Just pickup a Omori gauge on ebay, the make one specifically for the '02-03 & one for the '04-05, just different color backgrounds/lights. Or pickup a VDO from SummitRacing.com for ~$40.
