Black rear diff fluid??
I just switched my rear diff fluid at 1800 miles to synthetic.. anyways the magnet on the plug was solid black with grease and there were some chunks in the fluid. But the weird thing was how Black the fluid was. I havent really driven the car that hard so far and was wondering if this was normal?

This is NOT normal by any means. Chunks are pieces of metal, that is NOT good. I would bring it back to the dealer. This is for ALL Differntials. Metal is bad, and means bad things are on the way. You might have a chipped tooth on one of the gears
And I've dropped the fluid on a WRX as well, and its been run pretty hard, and the fluid was NOT BLACK and it had 21k on it.

I've changed quite a few subaru's fluids. I initially thought this was wrong, but if all of them have it; then I figured it's normal.
there is magnetic plug there for a reason and there will always be a small bit of shavings especially on your first change of the fluid.
again it's normal for your first change.

Tevia i agree with you on the fact that there will always be some "shavings" in the fluid on the magnetic. BUT he clearly stated that he saw "chunks" that is where I see a problem. Plus the color of the fluid is not typical of an 1800 OR 18000 mile car, unless it is a race car.
He needs to get the rear looked at by a professional.
