I vote for OEM Subaru oil filters although I think there are better filters if you don't mind paying a lot more. The OEM filters are made for Subaru by Purolator. I've never bought a Purolator from a local parts store so I can't say if the parts are identical. Maybe somebody will section one example of each and compare case thickness, filter medium, etc.

I buy them in bulk from Subaruparts.com.

I've used Fram oil filters for other cars in the past and at least for that application their filter was cheaply constructed and the case crushed easily.

Don't be put off by discoloration of the oil. The important thing is to stick to the regular maintenance schedule as specified by Subaru (or more frequently).

I never used anything other than OEM filters. They have also been working fine for me.

Hamp oil filters are pretty good. I used to use it in my turbo'd Integra. The ones that fit the Integra will also fit the WRX.

I use Canton-Mecca Racing replaceable core oil filters. They're the best you can get, bar none.

Yeah, that's what BobbyD is running on his car ever since I've known him. Think he said it was around $80.00 but then the core is replaceable, like you said.

I'm still runnin' the OEM's

how does anyone know how an oil filter works? I've been changing my oil for 18 years and I couldn't tell you how a specific oil filter works. Please let me know. All I hear is OEM this and OEM that. Unless you're testing filters scientifically, you will NOT know the difference.

After what Ford did to the RX-7, I am jaded to the belief that car companies want you to come back and buy another car instead of having your car run for a million miles. And since all of the car companies are pretty tied together between like 5 companies, they don't really care what you buy. I have the belief that there is always better than what the factory recommends, they like to stick to minimums and I don't. That is why we find so many recomendation to "upgrade" brakelines and hoses, because there is better and we want whats best for our cars. Therefore, I like to go with either the highend purolator with the anti-drainback valve or the high-end fram with the same. There are really nice racing filters that people like to get for like 80 bucks but those work really well for really high oil pressures and when driving on the streets, I hope no one is pusshing enough pressure to suck more oil than their filter can handle.

I use Mobil 1 for the Cougar and Bosch in the WRX. I wish they had a Mobil 1 for the WRX.
