Best Oil Filter is...????
What is the best oil filter?
I was standing there at pep girls today and i was standing there for a while looking at the oil iflters and I couldn't make up my mind. I was looking at the purolator pure one and the Fram X2. Both have anti-drainback valves and both say they are the best. The guy there told me that you pay an extra 5 bucks for the fram one just for the name.

if you search I know there is a detailed thread about this somewhere in here. I THINK that in the end most actually said that the stock subaru filter was one of the best. There was data to back up whatever conclusions they had too.

From what I remember, the Subaru filter is nothing more then a rebadged purolator.
You could also look at Amsoil high flow filters, their bypass filter kit, and Canton Mecca racing filters.
The last 3 command a higher premium, but offer a significant improvement on filtration.

I'd say amsoil.. I can't remember where I saw it but it was like top seven filters in order of efficiency were:
Amsoil
Mobil 1
Hard Driver
Hastings
WIX
Pure 1
Purolator
Cheers!

P.S. Fram Filters are down at the bottom of the barrel.. around the same efficiency as napa gold.. i mean hell, they still filter the oil.. but uhh yeah.. napa quality .

where can I get an amsoil filter? The amsoils website doesn't take my credit card for some reason. Is there another place I can order it from or is there a retailer I can go to?

CAPSLOCK KEY! Thank you.
I like the OEM filters, too. I know the filter housing says made by Purolator right on it, but I still buy them from SubaruParts.com. In my mind, I justify it by thinking that the filters could be manufactured for Subaru to slightly different specs than what Purolator markets to retailers. Unless someone cuts one open and measures the thickness of the housing and examines the filter medium, it might be the same in outward appearance, only.

I've been using a remote mount kit that uses two oil filters for a 5.0L mustang, easy to find pure one filters and extra filtration, plus I've seen my oil temps go down about 20 degrees. Cheap way to keep things cooler. Way cheaper than the STi cooler kit.
