Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

3rd gear on the highway all day? It's an '05 but still that is insane.

Wow you guys really know how to read, I took delivery in 9/04, so the miles are correct, I've owned many sports cars, and never have had such a fragile drivetrain as the WRX. I'm still on the original clutch so no problems with the AWD system, but I can't keep up with the engine/turbo issues. Not one post has been the slightest bit insightful, so keep bashing with your "3rd gear on the highway," I've never gone through a motor up to this car, I've put 200k miles on 5.0 mustangs, Taurus SHOs, Lexus LS400s, theres no excuse for an engine last 10k miles, especially the care I took with the high quality oils and consistant oil changes and perfect break in period.

Sorry I didnt read that it was an 05. It sounds like what was going on with my 06. Check and see if the downpipe is hitting against the transmission brace or somewhere down there. When I first put my downpipe on it sounded like the car was rattling apart from under the engine and with a little bit of elbow grease and retightening all the bolts down, its all gone.

The sound I heard was really loud and I could feel it in my feet and when holding the shift ****. The way I fixed it was take the cat-back and midpipe apart and also take the bolt out of the other mount near the transmission. I bent the bracket a little bit to give clearance from the transmission bracket and it went back in fine and I have not heard the noise since that day.
The way I checked it was to rev to around 3-4K and have someone outside the car looking underneath to see if they see the downpipe moving around. It wont do it all the time sitting still, but I could still see it.

I hope this helps and I hope you keep the suby.

These cars do not break down more than old used cars. Assuming your telling the truth about how you take care of the car I'd say you have very bad luck. I can't say I blame you for wanting sell it and stay away from another Subaru considering all of the problems you've had in such a short time period.

I have an 02 Cobb stage 2 with 97k (around 70-80K @ stage 2) and I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

BTW, nothing against Mustangs or SHO's (2 pretty cool cars) but It's a statistical fact that a Subaru is way more reliable than a Ford.

Good luck with the next purchase.
