Why is boost control not based on boost?

All the electronic boost control devices I've seen base boost control on some arbirarty scale rather than boost level. Why don't they just let you set a particular pressure. Now, sure my EBC has a warning which is PSI based. But the limiting factor and the boost setting is based upon this arbitrary 0-100 scale. Boost gain I can get some sort of mental handle on. The warning/limiting, that's easy enough. So whats this all important arbitrary scale that is the heart of boost control?

I had the same question which nobody answered for me either.

It has a warning set in bar (psi) but why can't you just set it at that and it won't go over.

In my opinion i think it has to do with the abient temp and that the controller would have to make adjustment in the "0-100" range to compensate for temperature but can't do that. You'll notice if you have the controller set at 45
in the mornig, when the afternoon hits and its warmer out that the bar or psi is way down from what it was and the controller now has to be set at like 55 or something.

I probably don't know what i'm talkin about though

Not true.

Which EBC do you have?

The reason your EBC doesn't allow you to set your boost in psi is because its not a true closed loop controller. When you set the 0-100 value you're setting the duty cycle for the solenoid and nothing more. The real question people should be asking is why the hell aren't most EBC's on the market true closed loop controllers?! Hell even the UTEC's supposed closed loop boost control isn't really a closed loop system and still varies with external conditions and you still set an arbitrary scaler value.
