Were to Mount EGT Sensor?

I just got in my Defi Link Gauges and I have been installing them. I am about to start installing the EGT gauge but I am not sure were I should mount the EGT sensor. I have seen some installs of it right at the exhaust port of the engine, I think it was the front cylinder on the driver side. I have also seen that some people like to put them after the turbo, this seem safer for the car but not as accurate. I need help figuring out were to mount my sensor. Any help would be great.

I have seen some places say that you need to weld the fitting to the manifold. Is this true or does it stay in tight so I don't have to take it some were to get welded? Does the fitting just thread in to the manifold or what? I want to be sure I get this right and not mess anything up.

Today I called Subaru of Dallas and Wasabi Racing here is Dallas, TX. and both of them said that they would put the sensor on the downpipe right after the turbo because you want the gas temp and because that way you way you will see how hot the gasses are going throw the turbo. This seems safer to me because you don't have to worry about the sensor braking apart and going into the turbo. I just don't know if it is the best place to put it but both places said the same thing and they both work on WRX's. What do all of you think about this?

From what I've read here at i-club, you want to mount the sensor on the exhaust manifold near cylinder 3 (not sure it is 3) because that cylinder runs leaner than the rest. If you mount it on the DP you will be getting an overall temp and that temp will be a lot lower than if it were mounted on the manifold. Since one of the cylinders runs leaner than the others you would be better off mounting it near that cylinder since it will be hotter than the rest. Here is a link to another thread that talks about the location of the egt bung https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...&highlight=egt. If you do tap the manifold make sure you take it off of the car and clean all of the shaveings out so they dont get sucked into the turbo.

I just read a thread and a guy used a 4 channel egt gauge to test his egt's with 3 different setups. It seemd like the guy knew what he was doing so I'm pretty sure he placed all of the probes the same distance from the cylinders and I know he swapped the placement of the probes to make sure they werent causeing the differences in egt's. According to this guys tests it seems like the hottest cylinder depends on the set up.

Wrong. You monitor EGTs to make sure that it won't get too hot inside the cylinders. The turbine and exhaust housing can take more heat than your motor can take without detonating. Also, post-turbo temps aren't as accurate.

Ok never mind I called COBB and they said that I wanted it on the manifold. I don't know what those other people were thinking saying that it need to go on the uppipe.
