Use aggressive map w/octane booster? (was: very serious. need answers. please help)

i recently upgraded my turbo from stock to vf34. mods are as follows with 02 wrx engine:

intake
greddy fmic
vf 34 turbo
sti injectors
walbro fuel pump
colder plugs
catless turboback exhaust
catless uppipe

heres the question. can i run the stage 4 download map from turboxs on my car if i use nos's octane booster? it claims to boost up to 7 points. im almost done with my car. probably today.

Hmmm...

Have you tried contacting TurboXS? They would probably know more about that than anyone else... Just my $0.02

Don't waste your money on the Octane booster. Do a search for Xylene.

When octane booster says "7 points", that means it takes your 92 octane up to 92.7. Use 1 gallon of Xylene to a half tank of 92 octane gas, and you'll get 95 octane. Xylene is 117 octane. Toluene is another additive used by a lot of people. I belive it is 114 octane.

yeah "octane boosters" don't work like a lot of people state they do. in reality they will up the octane by 1 if you are lucky. they have a better effect on lower octane gas (i.e. 87 octane) than on 91 or higher.

so i am going to say know you can not run a map tuned for higher octane gas using 91 octane with some octane booster added

thanx a lot for the info guys. i was gonna do an all out run thinking that it'll be ok if u guys didn't tell me. i guess i should think about paying and getting my car tuned since i don't know how to do it myself. but just out of curiousity.. does ne1 have a map for the utec with my setup running on 91 pump gas?

greddy intake
greddy fmic
vf34
walbro fuel pump
1 step colder plugs
sti injectors
m2 catless uppipe
helix catless downpipe
hks catless exhaust

maybe save myself from spending 600 dollars on tuning?

paying for tuning is never a waste of money. even if you do get a map from someone i would still go do a few dyno pulls to make sure everything looks alright and is running well.

mmboost has a similar setup minus the fmic and i am not sure if he has gotten his map to run quite right yet. (i could be mistaken)

you might want to pm porkchop, he has a very similar setup and has been running utec for a while now and the car runs well.

The stock map should prevent overboost unless you have a mbc. If your really worried just keep the gas to a min and watch your boost levels.
