Tune from laptop?
hey, just wondering if anyone had some suggestions about the following. I was considering using a laptop in my car with some sort of interface to the onboad computer with the intention of using it like you'd use an AFC or something of the sort (or boost timer if I ever get a turbo-that's later) Anyone know of any interfacing options/software controll software? It's one of those things where it would be more cool to have than to use, but who knows. Suggestions anyone?

I've got a buddy who built a EFI system from scratch for his 69 toyota landcruiser. It is a megasuirt controller that interfaces via rs-232 cable to a laptop. Hes got a pretty simple setup in his cruiser no turbo and not a really hi-po motor. He's slowly learning to tune it after researching how an EFI system works for two years, and this guys a mechanical engineer! when driving I sit in the pasenger seat with the laptop (of all places on my lap) and he tells me what buttons to push. Lemme tell you it is really cool, you see a immedate difference in the engine noise and power. But, it is extemely complex, he's always rambiing on a about Volutmetric efficincies and flows, EGT temperatures, and this is on a simple low performance non-turbo motor. It will look cool but when you accidently hit a button and your motor blows up you'll be out some serious cash. I've also looked at having a laptop interface, But I think I'll enroll in some engineering classes first.

by far the best user tunable engine computer on the market if not the only one. Comes with USB port on the computer so plug and tune from the passenger seat and even on the fly if you buy a cheap piece. Im sure you guys know that ignition, timing, fuel, boost, launch maps, and the lists go on.

Bah, there is XEDE, LINK, TEC III, Autronics and more. UTEC is simply one of the better budget piggybacks out there. And what the heck do you mean USB ports? UTEC is all Serial.
