Not all piggybacks are created equal.
Vishnu Performance also has the XEDE (pronounced like 'exceed'), which has a piggyback pass-through connector to the ECU, but is tunable with the optional software. Vishnu claims that XEDE is as tunable as the EcuTek, but the XEDE can be removed in minutes for smog testing, warranty work, etc. It works in conjunction with the factory ECU, so safety controls and learning capabilities are still in place.

Cobb Tuning just came out with their new ecu flashing service. Their products are very comprehensive and well thought out. Check out:

Thanks for the Cobb link, Scoots. Sounds like a less expensive alternative to the EcuTek. Cobb's FAQ page also says that they sell replacement OEM ECUs for $495. I didn't realize that the cost could be that low. I may pick up a spare stocker.

The ECUtek does not flash any "chip" per se.
Actually the entire ECU is "flashed" which enables the tuner to manipulate, i.e. tune, VERY many ECU functions.
If you are just looking to adjust boost levels then perhaps you may want to look into an AVCR.
