sti utec problem

Very intersesting. I'm wondering what kind of effect you would get from the
Stage 2 Program. I've heard so negitive things about the stage 1 program. But who knows. My STi runs great (with the exception of the slight hesitation at
2800 rpms) with the stage 2 program. Yes I'm also running a full turbo back exhaust but I get no knock at all even at high boost levels (18psi).
Just a suggestion.

When I was having problems with the same thing I called turbo xs (Mark I think) ask for tech support and he will ask you a few questions and see if he can help you make some adjustments over the phone. If that does not work data log exactly where you are getting the knock and email it to them. He will make adjustments to your map and should email them back to you. If that still does not work you will either need to 1) Do some road tuning or 2) go to a dyno and have them tune your car (make adjustments to your stage 1)

These base maps are not meant to be plug-n-play. You are running a map that who knows under what atmospheric conditions it was made, and you're running it in the beginning of a NY winter. You should expect some knock! The base maps are meant to be a starting point for tuning. Get a wide band O2 sensor and get tuning or get it professionally tuned. Even if you get it professionally tuned you'll be retuning it as the weather hits other extremes. If you don't want to do all that learning sell your UTEC and get a custom reflash.
Also, check out the UTEC forum in wrxhackers.com if you want to play with your maps. Its really not hard to make your map safe. READ THE MANUAL. Do some driving at the conditions where you knock and log it by pressing "1" at the top screen. Then post it at wrxhackers in the UTEC forum.
Me, I like the tuning and learning.
