Smells like rubber after rev high
Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone of yall had the same, i dont if it is a problem but, problem that i have. After i rev high, like when accelerate high in to like 5000 or 6000 range and say i stop....the car smells like its burning rubber especially if i have my windowws down or my vents on. I'm thinking something to do with the belts? Does anybody have any clue or ideas or had this experience?

If this happens after you 'launch' the car by slipping the clutch, then I'd say you're burning up your clutch. It won't smell exactly like burning rubber, though. If you're just accelerating from a roll up to 6000 rpm then I don't know what the problem might be. If it was your fan belts, you'd be able to smell it if you pulled over and opened the hood. No fan belt 'squeal'?
EDIT: Engine Management forum isn't really the best place to get a response to your particular question.

Check your valve cover gaskets, and any hoses that carry oil. (You'll know which one's carry oil by their super-hot temperature after driving for a while). Oil is very easily mistaken for rubber, and it could be dripping on your manifold. Good Luck

If by any chance you added a new pully, you may have the belts running too close together. When you rev high they may be rubbing each other???
Again, any mods?

Last guess:
Check the exhaust system, from down pipe to muffler to see if a plastic bag has melted on the pipe or muffler. Happened to a car I had in the '80s. They tend to get caught on the catalitic converter and begin to melt as the engine reaches maximum heat, ie: high revs.

My car does the exact sme thing.
The problem?
Licking oil right on the exaust pipe.
the result?
smeels like rubber.
The problem gets worse at long drives, or when reving up the engine a lot. In my case, i talked to a mechanic and it is leaking very little oil, and it should not be a problem, i just gotta add a little extra oil every one a month or 2.
But then again....mine has 100,000mi on it....and some very sharp rocks hit the bottom of the car(ouch), and made the problem worse(to the point it is now), but thats a story for another thread....just don't go at 75mph on the dirt road left to exit 77 on i-80 going to lone rock, the road ends suddently with a wall of rocks, lmao.(but then if you don't live in utah...it doesn't matter)
