Problem with COBB AccessPort
I was running the stage 1 *reflash* on my 04 wrx for 5 months with no problems. I was extremely happy with this reflash as I open-track my car and no matter how hard and how long I flogged the car, the max my EGT's would get where 880c. On the street, the highest EGT's I had seen where 820c. So I was happy that the car still had alot of safety margin in it but had good power.
I finally got around to installing the AccessPort this week and tried Stage 1, Stage 2 and even "stock" maps. My EGT's hit 900c and ABOVE (hit 940c once) now no matter what map I select. No idea what is happening. I called COBB and they said it must be something bad with my car , injectors or something. All of a sudden??? Sorry I don't buy that and I am a little disapointed that COBB dismissed it as a possible accessport problem and now my problem... and yes I have gone through a couple tanks of gas already so it's not bad gas.
At this point I have tried resetting my ECU, changing base maps and real-time maps with no fix. I am about to just unmarry the accessport and sell it and hopefully go back to my reflash that gave me no problems. I am really bummed because I was excited at what the Accessport could have offered me. Right now it is only offering the potential of melting my pistons.

If you unmarry your port with the car it will revert back to it's original program. It sounds like you already reset your ECU so that original COBB reflash is gone. The only way to get back to that would be to have them reflash it again. DOH!!!
So you are back to stock after removing the accessport. Why don't you just try downloading one of the older versions of the map and see if that helps from the COBB site. I just read that they put up a more "aggressive" stage 1 map cause people where asking for it so you may just be using a map that is too aggressive for your set-up. Hope this helps!!

UPDATE:
I swapped ECU's today just to see if it was indeed the accessport or not. I swapped in a bone stock never reflashed ECU (thanks MPJ MIKE!) and the car is smooth as butter, no pinging, no timing-retard and best of all, no high EGTs! It didn't even hit 810c on 3rd and 4th gear pulls and it was hot out today.
So.... this leads me to believe something with the accessport screwed up on reflash or I got a bad accessport.
Going to call COBB on monday and report my findings. Hopefully COBB won't blame it on something else that could have gone wrong on my car...
I really want to be able to use the AccessPort... The ball will be in COBB's court now.

hmm... what was your previous stage one tuning?
ecutek?
seems like that setup suited your car better, im starting to believe that this off the shelf map stuff isn't so good as it was intended to be ;(

I have an ecutek tuned by i speed and i have had absolutely zero problems with it...
But it is pretty cool how you can switch between maps with the cobb, although i have heard that thier maps aren't that aggresive...

**UPDATE** 5.08.04
Well, I reflashed my car today with the updated 1.17 stage 1 Base. I had unmarried the AccessPort last week because I was so pissed off so I had to remarry it today to flash the 1.17 stage 1 Base.
I flogged on the car for about an hour and all was fine again! EGT's only hit 820c and my car pulls smooth again! Woohoo.
So I decided to change the realtime to stage 2 which is the reason I upgraded to the AccessPort from the AccessECU to begin with. Stage 2 feels great. After about 3 hours of flogging the car hard on some mountain roads, there where no hiccups of any sort and the car felt great and powerful again.
I met up with a EVO 8 in the twisties and I was able to walk away from him in 3rd and 4th so needless to say so far I am happy again with COBB!
I'll give another update in a week or so...
Thanks to Trey@COBB for fixing the maps!!!!!!

After updating your base map to the 1.17 map did you notice any differences in Max Power, Low to Mid Range transitions, or throttle response? How about overall feel compared to the original 1.16 Map? I've been running the 1.16 map for about a month (no gauges so no idea on EGT's) and have been debating the 1.17 Map switch.
Thanks,
Curt

It felt the same as when I had the normal stage 1 accessECU. I never was able to get the 1.16 map for the accessport to work right (see above) so I can't tell you any differences between 1.16 and 1.17 other than my car isn't going to meltdown now.
I am running stage 2 as my real-time map and the car is more powerful, smoother and has much better response throughout the powerband than ever before.
