If you have to ask, you shouldn't be buying. Its VERY advanced and VERY capible and the price matches.
Unless you're talking about a motech exhaust, in that case, you're big pimpin.

Local indeed! Holy Sh** man, i bet your prices are a lot better without all those pesky importing hassles we've got! Buy one and let them install and tune it!
There are plenty of good sites out there that are dedicated to the Motec unit. One of the two original founders of motec is the guy that started Autronic (also down on your island). http://www.autronic.com/

MOTEC is awesome. It's a very advance (and expensive) system, but it's amazing. It lets you have alot of control. It's hard to get use to in the beginning I am told, but once you learn it, it's very easy. I'm on a team that builds a race car at the school I attend and that's what we use as our ECU. Buy it.

More HP requires a better Engine management system. You could "try" to use the old piggy back fuel computer/EBC/Apexi ITC trick...but to get good SAFE HP...you need a good fuel computer.
I'm running an apexi Power FC(3rd gen rx-7) and with the datalogit equipment from our New Zealand neightbors, it's cake to tune. I think they're developing the software right now to use on the WRX....

MoTeC isnt that popular over here for drag racing {Strange} but it is used in the V8Supercars.
i run motec and have had very few proplems with it. beside the inital wire up that i probably should of figured out what the hell i was doing!!
Haltec, Microtech, Link, EMS, and the list goes on. we use everything most mid range management systems cost between $1500 - $2000 australian.
the top end is from $2500 - $3500
