Which gear I should be trying to hit target boost of 14.7?

I just got my AP 2 days ago. I flashed Stage 1 91 as my base map. I have an 03 wrx btw. I only have about 30 miles since the reflash but I'm wondering which gear I should be trying to hit target boost(14.7). 3rd? 4th? Car feels smoother and pulls a little harder from 2nd and up. Haven't checked my psi yet.

I still only have about 30 miles since the reflash. I took it out today and floored it in 3rd and 4th. My boost hit a max of .08 mpa (11.6 psi?). I have only really been driving in stop and go traffic with an occassional stomp here and there. I'm gonna go for a long drive on the highway tommorrow and hopefully my boost will go up. The funny thing is my car still feels faster than stock, or maybe its just me?

You are at the same boost I was at after flashing stage 1 93 octane and it never got to target. After 300 miles of learning, I called Cobb and they told me the ecu was not capable of learning to add that much boost so I went with the hwg map and now everything is good. I was a little leary of the hwg map but I learned that the only thing it changes is the way the wastegate works (hwg=high waste gate). Like you my car felt a lot better even though I wasnt at target boost. After changeing to the hwg map I cant say I noticed a difference in the old butt dyno but I did notice a big gain boost. If I were you I would try the hwg map and keep us updated on how it works out. I dont know that this is the best way to gauge your boost but I have been going to a nice, long and streight strerch of highway that doesnt have a lot of traffic and punching it in 5th gear at about 85 mph. Also dont forget to pay attention to conditions because you will experience less boost in a hotter conditions. Here is a link to a thread that has an explination of target boost problems by Trey on Cobbs discussion forum http://www.wrxforum.com/cgi-bin/ulti...342;p=2#000023

good luck

Thanks for the info MO REX. I'll give it a couple hundred miles more and if I don't hit the target I'll try that map. I'll keep you guys posted.

I just added some more info in my post. Check out the link because I dont think you will ever hit your target without the hwg map. The link is talking about your problem with stage 2 but the way the waste gate is being manipulated is the same.

i also had a problem hitting target boost with stg. 2 so i went to the hwg map.
it also takes a long time to learn. i drive fairly agressivly and it took two tanks of gas to really learn (500+ miles)

boost is funny though, if i run redline through all the gears i wont hit target boost, the turbo just doesnt make pressure up in the rpms. if im cruising in 2-5 gear at about 3k and punch it ill hit target boost though. Sometimes ill get it in first too

at any rate, it takes a long time to get there, if that doesnt work try the hwg map, or try to tighten your wastegate actuator arm. All this stuff is covered on cobb's forum

Do you know of anyone that has gained 3 psi after the car does its learning? According to the guy I talked to at Cobb, the ecu will not even be able to learn 2 psi.

I took the car for another quick drive today. Instead of using my stock subaru boost gauge, which previously indicated a best of around .08 mpa(11.6 psi?). This time I used the accessport boost gauge. I punched it in 3rd and 4th gears starting from 3k and I hit a max of 13.5 psi. I was kinda relieved. It was also fairly hot and humid out also. Since it's only been around 30 miles since my reflash I think I'm going to wait a bit and hope that the ecu will learn enough (1. psi more) to hit the target boost. I hope it's possible. Thanks for all your help and info guys, I'll keep you posted on any progress I have. Nick.

Well, it's been 300 miles now and my best is 14.3psi in 5th gear. I'm getting there.

Im glad to hear everything is working out. Im sure it will gain some more in the next few tanks of gas. Mine has gained about .75 psi since I first flashed the HWG map and it has been a lot hotter and more humid than when I first flashed it. I would stick with it even if you only get to 14.5ish.

Actually, I hit 14.5 psi tonight. So I'm almost there. Thanks Mo Rex.
