The OP has an '05 wagon, does this defroster button thing work you are eluding to on his ecu?
I don't tune anything but my AVCR
I am however lucky enough to pick Mikes brain and on a couple of occasions pick Paul's and Ed's (Man are we lucky in NorCal! :RockOn - not mine: ). I think all three are in agreement about the ECutek, Mike and Paul have a lot of experience with that unit I know. Ecutek has abandoned us for the euro market.
Point is where are the nifty features and advantages over the Cobb, I have give you examples of added features and you seem to dismiss them. I just didn't see any advantage with my Ecutek I rocked for two years. Benn on Cobb for about a month and I am seriously impressed with the 2.0

so you dont tune so its hear say with no actual experience?
i agree ecutek has pretty much abandond teh us
they had some crappy program where tehy had to teach you how to tune in person before you got the software and you couldnt be near any of thier other dealers near you. so they werent helping themselfs
then there was teh lic fee of ilike 300-400 $ i forget off hand
so you got 600 for a 1k$ tune after insurance and shop or what ever you didnt do too well
open ecu is free software and you can buy the interface if you want

Not only do I have experience to talking to tuners in the flesh about it, I have experience on the customer side. I have used both Ecutek and Cobb. My only experience with Open Ecu was to data log. Not all of us, even half of us are ready to tune our cars. My comfort level is just not there.
Sure open ECU is a cheap route, what the question was about was Ecutek vs Cobb. You are trying to have an entirely different discussion here.

i have an 03
defroster button FTW
and ill be honest im thinking open ecu not ecutec
how often do you switch maps
i had the utec and had the damn switch and never used it
utec has launch control
i found my self launching it better with out it
unless you can launch in boost with cobb then yeah totally if you are drag racing well worth it
no idea what flat foot shifting is or why you need it
the lesser tune and harder for the tuner is all on the tuner

So I am reading all the threads and half the people say that love their cobb setup, but on the othere hand I have spoken to people the swear by ECUTECK. What are the ups and downs versus each and your opinion what would you suggest to get. By the way I am driving a 2005 WRX wagon 5 spd. and I am to install the 3 inch turbo back exhust I have once I have a tune. I also live in Arizona where it reachs on average 100 degrees every dayt for about 3 months straight in th summer.
Then I found out about Delta Dash, I still don't know a whole lot about it, but it can be an extremely useful tool to use. Similar to the AP that lets you switch maps, DD can store as many maps as you want, and as long as you have your laptop, can switch out or tweak anything. Since it's on a laptop, you can log data, you can get emails from your tuner with any changes to a map if you find anything not to your liking, and I'm sure thousands of features I don't even know about.
Also remember, AFAIK Subaru WRC team uses ECUTek.

I have an ECUTek on my car, since it came on it when I bought it used. For a long time, I kept thinking, WOW now that the AP has protuner is soo much better since it has that little unit that allows you to pull CELs, switch maps, etc.

You do bring up some good points.

it doesnt say a brand name but it makes it sound like subaru can hack thier own ecu
but that means you would have to make a program available or have a subaru person there all the time
i dunno if the stock ecu can run all that crazy extra stuff
