ECUTEK or Cobb Accessport
So I am reading all the threads and half the people say that love their cobb setup, but on the othere hand I have spoken to people the swear by ECUTECK. What are the ups and downs versus each and your opinion what would you suggest to get. By the way I am driving a 2005 WRX wagon 5 spd. and I am to install the 3 inch turbo back exhust I have once I have a tune. I also live in Arizona where it reachs on average 100 degrees every dayt for about 3 months straight in th summer.

ecutec is bettAr
its a custom tune for your care
cobb is a map for eveyrone
and every tuner will tell you no two motors are the same
if you and your friend have the same car same mods one will do better than the other
thats the way it is

Well coming from the Ecutek and going to the Cobb AP 2.0 there isn't even a comparison between the two.
1st the Ecutek will frustrate your tuner. They can edit crap in real time. This makes tunning take longer, be harder on your car, and usually results in a "lesser" tune.
The Cobb AP is user friendly, tuner friendly, and you can run more than one single map (Ecutek only does 1 map).
Plus if you get the AP2.0 you get some nifty features like Launch Control and Flat Foot Shifting.

Multiple gas maps
Flat Foot Shifting
Launch Control <---Hella SIACK!
Data logging
An AP and tune can run you about $700 if you know the right people.
A Ecutek will cost you $400+ for the unit and I bet you money you will pay the standard tunning fee and get no breaks because of the time involved with tunning the Ecutek. So about $650 plus for the Ecutek w/tune.
Also I know on the tuners side they have access to change more and "unlock" more of the ECU.

defroster button FTW
and ill be honest im thinking open ecu not ecutec
how often do you switch maps
i had the utec and had the damn switch and never used it
utec has launch control
i found my self launching it better with out it
unless you can launch in boost with cobb then yeah totally if you are drag racing well worth it
no idea what flat foot shifting is or why you need it
the lesser tune and harder for the tuner is all on the tuner

hahaha
i agree completely i think you should get paid for your time.
But I am not going to go to a tuner that uses cobb with my ecutec i would get a tuner that uses ecutec to tune. Just like im not going to a ecutec tuner when i have an AP. If you do ecutec or cobb all day of coarse you got your system down. if some one handed me an AEM EMS i wouuld have my head up my *** and be screwing with it for a while before i got the ins and outs of it. I am running a link now and its a standalone too but not the same. ive seen peeps tune the EMS and hell its a different layout and it would take a while to get it down
so after that long winded random paragraph ill say this im not going to a mitsu dealer to work on my subaru.

i agree paul does know his ****
either way get a custom map both sides of this can agree on that im sure

With that said, the Cobb is a good option if you're far from a tuner. Ask Paul what he thinks, I'd personally get the tune from him. I haven't heard anything but good stuff.

It's like Win98 I can install hardware and get it to work on the network, but XP has more features and is a lot more friendly to admin, as well as for the user.
Both work, one is better.
