Custom economy map/ maybe 87 or 89 oct?

I found a lot of information about the stage 1 economy mapthat comes with the AP.
From what I understand, it just lowers boost and really doesn't help much in conserving gas.
Because I'm stage 2, I really don't want to try that map. Are there any parameters I could ask for in getting a custom tune, besides having my boost lowered at cruising speeds? There are times when I go on long road trips (over 100 mi), and would like to have a good working econ map.
Is there a way to tune the car to run on 87 or 89 octane? When I'm on the freeway for a long trip, I don't see the point in needing that much power or wasting money on high octane gas for nothing.

i suppose you could retard teh timing and put no boost

but a 3cyl geo metro would be faster

when you go back to normal you would have to empty the tank all the way and put high octane back in

(3.20-3.10) * 16 = 1.60

so it's $1.60 per fillup of a difference...

hmm for a ok turn you are looking at 200 bucks right(corect me if I am wrong)
and to make up that 200 bucks you would have to fill up 125 times. I dont know about you but I would rather just keep my foot out of the gas and resist the temptasion to floor it. I had a 67 firebird with a 400ci motor runing 10.75/1 comp and a 750cfm carb and I could get 21mpg. You realy just have to keep your foot off the gas.

if you are willing to put anything other than Premium in car, you should sell it & give the proceeds to charity.

Ok....... I know what everyone is getting at.

There are times when I have to take long trips, nearest track is over 2hrs, friends and family are about and hour. My wife might need the other car etc.......
I'm just trying to save some money.
For example It takes 2 tanks for a round trip to the track. Thats about $100ish
then at the track I fill up with 100oct, add my track fees thats like $400 for the day

2 tanks on the freeway feels like a waste

I stay at a constant speed, depending on the freeway its between 70 - 75
with cruse control on.
Im just asking if there there is anything else beside lowering my boost?
So far I think I'm holding boost too high for cruising. its about -.05

Best answer.

I used to think by flashing the econ map on it I was saving a bunch of gas, but not really. Cobb says to be light on the throttle when in 'econ mode/map' but if you're easy on the throttle anyways, it's the same thing. I've seen a mpg test done and they're just about the same.

I recently took a trip over 2 hours and got good mileage by staying out of boost as much as possible and in 5th gear, lower rpm. (While ignoring the freeway racers also). Hope that helps!
