here's what I'm doin...

I just put mine in a few days ago and posted all my current settings along with a few questions similar to yours

my setup: avc-r, hks catback, injen CAI

My initial duty cycle setting was 54 with a target boost of 1.00 I went out and did some hammerin and it overshot a bunch, so I called up Alta (where I bought it) and they gave me a couple pointers

1. while its learning (adjusting the duty cycle at each 500 rpm mark to get your target boost) it will overshoot until it learns what the proper duty cycle needs to be. must be awhile...

2. fourth gear was my worst overshoot because you're pulling a heavy load. answer: go into the start duty settings and compensate
here's my current settings:
1st +4
2nd +2
3rd 0
4th -3
5th -5

that worked much better the overshoots were much lower and less frequent; but here's my problem now...

if I'm cruising along in any specific gear and hammer it to redline in that gear, my boost peaks at exactly 1.0 (my desired setting); but if I start out in first and hammer it to red in each of the first three gears; it overshoots into 1.16 or 1.17 I don't know if it spikes when I shift or what

I should also mention that I went in and dropped the desired boost I want at 6500 down to .90 because (from what I've read and been told) our little stock turbo could spin too fast at that rpm to maintain high boost. I might be off base here, and someone please correct me if I am, but thats what I've done. I went out today and played with it to get it to learn more, but it didn't change much.
other than that I enjoy it alot, it definitely spools much quicker and holds boost from around 2900 all the way to red.

I installed the scramble switch today and I am cautious to use it until the thing settles down and I'm confident it won't really spike when I use the scramble.

two questions for those who've wired this in before??

1. can I just ground the other side of the switch or does it have to go back to the actual ground wire on the avc-r harness?
2. is there a light or something that visually tells me I'm in scramble mode

sounds good, think I'll try it

as I said, so far I'm comin real close, mostly when I just do single gear runs. its when I slam it through all four that I get the spikes

while I'm thinking about it: is it gonna damage the thing to spike it like this while we're tuning them? if I can do damage with a single spike, what's the level that will do damage?

when I'm out on the road in either first, second, or third and I slam it down it almost never boosts over my target of 1.00 but if I get on the back roads and start from sitting and row through the gears about til I hit 125 it usually records a high boost of 1.17 or 1.18 wadda u think about that?

how long does it continue to "learn"? if I go and run it to get groceries with the "learn" on and drive it conservatively will it negatively affect my results?

thanks for the help dude! talk to ya lata

woops, one other thing... what are your n/s or gear judge settings? thanks

Where were you guys when I had mine installed a few months back? Glad you got it worked out. I only had mine installed for about 3 weeks before I took it out (not a problem with the AVC-R, had other problems and am switching to a reflashed ECU). Good luck to you both. I really liked it once I got it dialed in. More boost at lower revs, and such. the reason your getting spikes later is because the factory boost settings are mapped for max boost in gears 3 and 4. That is the explanation for why you are not getting spikes in 1st.

thanks

thanks there fella, but one question about what you said... "the factory maps give full boost in third and four gears, is why we're getting spikes in those gears"

but I'm not using the factory boost maps now, right? If I took the factory solenoid out of the system and it no longer controls the wastegate then the factory boost map shouldn't matter, right? just my thought process, maybe (probly) I don't understand exactly how it all works yet.

since you used the avc-r for awhile, could you answer one quickie for me? once it gets close and the duty cycle #'s turn to ***'s should I turn off the gear learn if I'm drivin around town slow, so it doesn't try and readjust for the different driving style??? thanks mon, later

The factory boost map is controlled by the ECU. Even though you turned off the boost solenoid, you still wired it into the ECU. You're just allowing the boost map to be modified piggy-back style.

As for the ***'s.. I don't know. Sorry.
