Same as crank pulley. You underdrive your alternator putting less load on the motor and feeing up some parasitic loss hp.

Hmm... I was under the impression that most if not all aftermarket pulleys for Imprezas are NOT underdriven. They are merely lightweight. If you "underdrive" your alternator, I believe that it will effectively provide less charging ability for your battery. Simply lightening the pulley should not have any effect on the alternator's operation. However, in theory less energy will be used to spin the pulley itself.

However, the stock alternator pulley is already small in diameter, and does not look to be very heavy (unlike the stock crank pulley). Lightening it will have much less of an effect than lightening your crank pulley. Of course, I'm no expert so I'd welcome anyone in proving me wrong.

It is true that the stock alternator pulley is already pretty small compared to the crank pulley. however, if you came into Mach III where i'd be glad to let you feel how incredibly light the Beatrush alternator pulley is, then you'd probablly see the reason why you would get it. besides, it's only $60 bucks! =P It is not underdriven though, so you dont have to worry about that.

yeah, i was thinking how much difference would the beatrush alternator pulley
be...because, the stock alternator pulley is so small already. how much can you save on the weight.
