Whining Wrx
HI,
I just changed the tranny and rear diff fluid with Redline full synthetic in my 2003 WRX wagon because there was a pretty obnoxious whine coming from one of the two. After I changed it the noise subsided but after a week or so it has come back. It mainly only whines when I (lightly?) press the throttle (usually while I'm on the freeway). I don't think it's the engine because it sounds like it's coming from mid or rear of the car and it sounds like one of those 'gear whines'. Anybody else out there have this problem? Any tips? Also, is the tranny fluid drain plug the same as the front diff, or do these car's front diffs and trannys have two separate plugs? (Maybe I didn't change the front differential fluid like I thought I had..) Help would be greatly appreciated!

Like TurnWRX, I'm getting a little whine off of the rear diff on my '03 WRX Sedan. I've got 48K on the car and started to notice it a few weeks ago. It's only when I'm in 5th gear driving flat ground and running low rpm to save fuel, like 55-65. I don't know if this is fixable with fresh fluid or if it's just resulting from normal wear.

Well changing the fluid didn't help me..it subsided for a week or so but then it came back as strong as before. I don't know what to do about it..I've only got 37,000 miles on the car. It appears that other people have this problem so I don't believe selling mine and buying another will do me any good..
