transmissions
I'm new to the WRX Impreza world. I have heard that the transmissions are pretty weak in the impreza's....I have even heard that the STI has a weak transmission and they will go out at about 50,000 miles. I find this hard to believe considering the price of the car is 32,000 dollars. I would appreciate any information you can give me on this subject.
Thank you,

The transmission on these cars are fine. It just depends on how you drive. The STi has a much stronger transmission than the WRX but both are by no means indestructable. If you try to slam/bang through the gears, forcing them to shift before the syncros have done their work you'll kill them irregardless of how much "theoretical" HP they are supposed to hold. The stock WRX tranny has been shown to hold a lot of power and the STi tranny even more. Just remember to keep your shifting and clutch release smooth and the tranny will last a long time. Personally I wouldn't go with more than 220WHP (Vishnu dyno) i.e. 260ish WHP (on other dynos) on the stock tranny, but thats just because of my driving style and comfort level. Hope that helps =)
