Transmission Removal Issue

The car: 2003 WRX completely stock

Today I began the process of dropping my transmission so I can put my new clutch in. I ran into a very large problem though. ( I cannot get the transmission to slide off of the 2 alignment rods on the bottom). I have the axles disconnected, the downpipe completely off and everything else that is necessary for the transmission to move freely. I lowered and raised the engine for about 2 hours today, pushed and pulled in every direction and it wont come off of the 2 rods. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was under the impression that once it broke from the bell housing it would pretty much slide right off, however this doesn't seem to be the case.

I had this issue and a prybar doesn't really help.

What happened on my RS was the engine started to tilt foward and in turn bound up on the pins. Jacking it doesn't really help either. We tried. You need someone grab onto the crank pulley to move (kinda shake actually) the engine up and down vertically. This is what I did with my Dad and friend yanking on the tranny and it slid right out.

Good Luck.

Spray this onto the two dowel pins & wait 10 minutes.
Tap on the dowel pins using a hammer & drift.
Notice, I said "tap" and not "bang" or "bash".

Thank you all for the help, I think I found the issue though. I forgot to remove the pin on the throwout bearing. If I am correct, i can temporarily remove a bolt from the timing belt cover to screw in right?

any advice for this step? Also, I think i will need to tap the pins as they are wedged now probably. ( I have 2 cans of PB at my house already , I love that stuff)

Yep, just screw the bolt into the end of that release fork shaft and pull it out.
