transmission is blown need some opinions...

i blew my first gear as have many others.... im 17 paying for everything on my car so im kind of cramped on money right now, and i would like to save as much possible, so i am going to install this myself.... anyways.. what im wondering is if i get an RA gear set, what else is needed to make it work on an 02 wrx... do i need to buy more parts or just buy the set and put them in place and then im good to go...

another option is to just buy a used transmission from a wrecking yard and putting it in myself...
or my last option is to look into going to an STi tranny and put it on my wrx.. when doing this conversion, what needs to be bought and what exactly needs to be done to make the 6spd work instead of the 5mt...
PLEASE i need as much info as i can get right now.. im really stressed.. i have no car, and i need to get this done asap!!

Uless your have the knowledge and expieriance and a wicked set of tools the only option is to possible buy a used 5mt or 6mt. You might be able to pick one up for 2k if your lucky. Do a search for them here and on nasioc then call a few vendors to get some idea's and direction.

The RA gearset wont really help your tranny issue. I'd get that taken care of before you set yourself up for another major break.

sti tranny and ra gearset/wrx used tranny is a big difference. sti tranny will cost about double the amount of the tranny. if your going to install this yourself and youve never done it before your going to mess up. why cant you get just the 1st gear fixed? but if u do want a ra gearset get it put in by a good shop and swap the 5th gear on your car into it

a gearset is not the type of install most people can do by themselves...you def want a shop to do it

it is also recommended you change the sycnhros while you are in there...not mandatory if your sunchros are fine, but more of a "while you're in there" sort of mod

the gearsets we offer are complete, ready to be installed....however, finding a set in stock right now is going to be difficult

The RA gearset does make a big difference if thats the type of gearing you want to drive with. However with a sick tranny it's the last thing I would recomend; its going to put that much more stress on an already broken 5mt. Unless he's getting it for free and installed by himself or for free as well it's going to take every penny this 17 year old has to get his tranny woe's under control much less purchase and have installed a RA gearset.

Take your car to the dealer and see what they say and how much. If you dont like it then take it to a tranny shop local to you. The last thing you want to do is start something that your not prepared to deal with, unless of course you are in which case more power to you. Remember first get a proper diagnosis of the problem before concluding the worst then you'll be in a position to make an educated decision based on your budget, or lack thereof, and your needs.

I remember being 17 and having limited funds..... and I also remember not having my car for most of the summer because I guessed and assumed the worst before asking a pro how much. If I only would have known.

Good luck

and thats my problem... i have to work to get my money and as of now i am living paycheck to paycheck... i replaced my clutch with an ACT kit, and a lightened flywheel, and then the day i got my car back from subaru specialist, i blew the tranny... now its back in SS... and im gettin a used tranny from nate and gettin it installed.. in the last week i have spent almost 2700 bux on clutch, and tranny... and that comes straight out of my pocket.... oh well its worth it..
