Tranny problems...dealer verified it, but won't repair..

My tranny shifts hard and its not that smooth..so i took it in the green valley subaru, I had a technician drive the car while I was in it and he verified that it didn't feel right, but he said to just wait and let it "break in"...the car has 4500 miles on it..how much longer does it take to break in...He said over time it should go away, and he said if it doesnt after another 15,000 miles then to bring it back in..I dont want to drive around for another 15,000 miles and wait for a problem to happen....I know there is a problem and I want it taken care of..What do you guys recomened?

15k miles?! Pretty absurd recommendation if you ask me. At that point any tranny warranty will be void seeing as how claims are coming in left and right from enthusiasts. I'd talk to a service manager.

Shifting Tough?

Hello,

I think many of us initially felt like that, but if you launch hard a few times, and it will shift much smoother (hence break-in). Do a search and you find similar experience shared by others. I have 14,000miles and it shifts pretty good.

Good luck (Don't forget it is AWD, Trubo + 227 hp!) and have a great day!

I don't put my transmission through any hard use until the gear lube is thoroughly warmed up. This can't be accomplished with the car idling in the driveway, but by actually driving the car.

Absurd, possibly. However, if you have his recommendation in writing it is not such a bad thing. They have admitted there is a problem early on. You get another 10K of mileage out of it and still have the problem, they fix the tranny. Would you rather have an overhauled tranny at 4K or 15K? I purposely waited about 10K before having my chattering clutch replaced under warranty for this reason...

FWIW, I like how my tranny feels a bit stiff and notchy. I drove a Passat over the weekend and the tranny felt so vague, very unenjoyable to row through the gears imo.

Well on the R.O. it said "checked for transmission problem, no problem found at this time" is that enough, or should I get more from them?
What should I have them type in on the R.O.?

I would do that, but its way to far from me..I live out in vacaville and I work all the time so I could never be able to go there and be back in vacaville in time for work...plus it would also require someone to follow me out there...

I say make sure you get it in writing about bringing it back in a 15,000 miles. Somehow dealers "forget" what they've said when you car breaks.

Tranny breaks.....dealership you went to says "to bad", "we never said that"......you pay $5,000 for tranny + more $$ for labor!!!

MAKE THE TIME!!!!!
Hope it all works out for you.
