Unhappy Tranny clunk under low RPM in high gears causing hesitation

My 02 wrx (5 spd) has been experiencing a weird "clunk" noise from around the tranny area. It occurs when I upshift from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th, as soon as I put my foot down to accelerate in the new gear AFTER the clutch has fully engaged with the flywheel. The clunk happens randomly at about 1 in 5 shifts under low to medium RPM, when engine load is high. When the clunk happens, the car hesitates for split second as if something in the driveline didn't 'catch' properly as it waits for the next revolution or cycle.

Anybody knows what's going on with my tranny? Could this simply be related to the tranny oil needs changing? It's been about 20K miles since I last changed it.

I'm in Seattle, so if anybody knows of a good place to have my car worked on, please let me know.

Thanks
