Can be done.
You will need tranny, clutch, flywheel, MT ECU, MT gauge cluster, clutch pedal assembly, clutch master cylinder, MT driveshaft, shifter.
I might have left something out, but most important parts are here. It is pretty easy, if you know what you are doing. Thank got Subaru's are like LEGO's. Everything fits together regardless of the year, trim, etc.

yeah, but what are you going to do with TCU (or whatever it's called)??
for manual the split is fixed 50/50
for auto 90/10 and keeps rolling back and forth

The split occurs inside the transmission case, or its center diff section to be exact. Once the tranny is switched (and matched to a proper rear end) the split will be 50/50.
The TCU is only required for the AT tranny. MT doesn't require any electronics to make it work. You only need to connect it's speed sensor, neutral switch and reverse gear switch.

AT to MT?????
I knew I would need the tranny, clutch, flywheel, Clutch pedal assembly, and clutch master cylinder, but what's the difference between the MT ECU and MT guage cluster? What would be a good place to find these parts? Would Junkyard parts be ok? I found some pretty good looking pieces in a local yard, like the clutch pedal assembly. But I was wondring about the trannies in the yards. Would junkyard ECU's be ok? Would a tranny from a new GDB car fit in my GC8? I know that kids around here are getting these WRX's before they really know how to drive and wrecking them right away. I havn't done a lot of work on cars, but I know some guys that work at a local Sube shop that were Subaru techs and know very well what rhey are doing. Thanks for the help and opinions guys!

IMO I don't think that you will need the gauge cluster, or the ECU. There are only a couple wires that actually go to the ECU from the trans, and these can be modified. A WRX trans would fit in your car, but it has longer gear ratios then say an RS trans, which might not be desireable if you don't have a powerful car. I don't know if you live anywhere near me, but I am selling an RS trans if you are interested.

You don't "need" the gauge cluster, but the gear read out from the AT will be in your face. Its more of a cosmetic mod and mod for those who are very **** about things (me ).
The ECU is also not required, but it will make things easier as far as starting the car (clutch sensor, reverse sensor, etc).

Alex,
Isn't the Manual and Automatic Bulkhead harness's different? Or can you use the auto for the manual? Subaru Part numbers are different. As is the wiring scematics.
I though the two are incompatible......if this is not so, and either can be used, then all the better for me.'

My guage cluster doesn't have the a/t gear readout on it. The car was in an accident before I got it, but it was rebuilt very well, so my guess is that it allready has a m/t gauge cluster in it. This seems logical considering the nature of the accident and that they rebuilt the whole front end of the car.
