Subaru Rears...
Noob question....aside from the different guts (open, LSD, Sure-track, etc....) are the subaru rear ends the basicly same from model to model and/or year to year?
For instance, could a WRX or STi rear fit into a GC8/forester/legacy chassis? Or do the upgraded cars have upgraded rears (larger ring & pinion, etc...)
Just curious!
thanks!

Car Info: Random, yet well planed selection of jdm cult cars
the sti's use a r180 diff. the wrx's and 2.5rs's use an r160 diff. the older turbo legacy used an r160 diff also. the diffs also have differnt gearing. the sti 6spd has a 1:1 transfer case so the r180 diffs are 3.90. the wrx has a 1:1.1 transfer case so it has a 3.54 gear set.

thanks for the quick reply! BWTM...
so, what are the differences between a r180 vs. r160? anything besides the gearset? How abou the new turbo forester? they have somethnig like a 4.44 gearset, right? but what type of transfer case?
What do the regular imprezas & legacy's use?
thanks!

i got the open vs. limited...
But are they all the same size? the above post says no...
For example, the 1.6L miatas had a smaller 6 inch ring gear (weak) compared to the larger, stonger 7 inch gear found in the 1.8L cars. It is possible to break a 1.6L rear w/o a SC or turbo.
I was wondering if there are differnces liek that betwen modles/years with the subarus. Not planning on changing mine or anything, just want to know.
