OMG dude that sux! I dont understand why that happened. Im guessing it may have been a Factory defect considering it was a factory order and ur the first to drive it. What dealership did you take your car to?
Try the dealership in Silver Spring "Herb Gordon" They do pretty good work there... so I hear. If you go to the Auto Park on Rt. 29 and Briggschaney Road you can find the Subaru Service area and have them check it out if it happens again.

the reverse synchro is very weak on the 5MT.
I've had it replaced twice, because I couldn't get it not to grind, from a complete stop, when shifting into reverse...

Probably wanted to charge you for something cuz you brought it in complaining about it being difficult to get into reverse.... (A known querk of WRX transmissions, and others)

okay you twit, just chill...
so I didn't know that it doesn't have a synchro, so just take a pill!
actually, it would be a good idea to have a reverse synchro, because so many ppl (not me tho) shift into reverse while moving.
so in my case they replaced the gear, so that it wouldn't grind all the time...
I have noticed that less intelligent/more sheisty dealerships are offering "one-time/courtesy" type fixes, and it smells like illegal circumventing of the warranty.
