Reenforcing the MT5 case?

Come on people their has to be someone in this forum that has machining, engineering, welding or manufacturing back grounds that can help us solve this problem. What make the 6 spd case so much stronger? Is is thicker, could we add material, is it finned, could we weld on some reeforcements to the outside. How hard would it be to find a company to manufacture stronger case halfs and how many would we have to make to make it cost effective. Does it have to be stamped or cast or machined. Come on people anyone have any ideas or information to share?

when the pics of the 6mt and the 5mt were put side by side, and the weakness of the casing was brought up...i thought about this myself. it'd be pretty ghetto, but i'm sure it'll work...if you get some 1/4-1/2" of whatever metal the casing is made from, and weld it to the casing. it'd require making an exact cut from the tranny...so it wouldnt' be easy, and still not be as strong as the 6mt. but it would have to be stronger than stock.

I'm sure the tranny case is made from aluminum so the only way to attach supports is to tig weld other aluminum bars to it. Tig welding requires the case and the supports to be pre heated which causes warping of the metal. The case would then have to be re-machined to spec. A new stronger manufactured case would have to made from a mold which would be expensive to make, but once the mold is made the cases would be cheap and easy to make.

To be able to rework and reinforce an existing case you’d have to know exactly where you needed to beef things up, and be able to do it in a way that wouldn’t cause another problem. If you’re driving hard enough to roast your tranny outside of the warranty period you should be looking at the 6 speed anyway. IMHO.
