Re-packing CV joints with grease
Well, .25 miles after I put in my new front STi axles onto my WRX, the outter boots got messed up. I didn't check and the bottom of my ZERO SPORTS shock (re-charge fitting) rubbed the boots to death.
Of course the grease came out. I got some new STi boots and clamps and took the axles out and apart.
How much grease am I supposed to put in there? Fill the entire boot and bearing with it?

you shouldn't pack it full of grease. Grease will expand when it gets hot which could burst the boots.
Subaru service manual says for EBJ (enclosed ball joint?) end of the drive shaft (which is the outboard joint) 60-70 grams of grease should be used, 2.12 - 2.47 oz, NTG2218, subaru part number 28093AA000.

sorry, the manual says 60-70 grams on the joint, then another 20-30 grams inside the boot itself, so about 100 grams in total for the grease or 3.5 oz. I believe if you buy the grease from the dealer, it should be prepackaged with just enough to finish the job.

yea you dont want to fill the boot with grease. put a generous amount on the bearings and make sure they move freely. clean it well cause a torn boot will get contaminated pretty quick which makes that ticking noise. be generous with the grease but dont over do it.
