Pressure Plate

Just thought I would share my misfortune with you. Since Subaru has redesigned the clutch, I have to have a new fluid reservior, hoses, the new clutch, and a new flywheel. Apperently 91k miles of wear causes cracks. The total cost for this spectacle is $1300. Ouch man this sucks, clutches are not supposed to cost this much. I am going to try to get the old clutch and flywheel back so I can hang them on my wall. I mean for $1300 its gotta be a work of art right?

Finally got the car back, price went up to $1500 for clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, master cylinder and hoses. Got the old stuff back. The flywheel weighs 27.5 lbs for anyone who is interested. It had some good surface cracks in it and it looked like the surface may have begun folding over on itself. I will post pictures soon or at least a link to them. The clutch is an exedy and it lookes more or less fine besides the usual wear. Oh yeah clutch shudder people, wear from clutch shudder is APPARENT ON THIS FLYWHEEL. Don't let the dealer tell you it is fine or normal.

They said you needed a new clutch master cylinder? By lines do you mean the hard metal lines or the POS rubber one that connects from the hard metal line to the slave cylinder? Theres no way in hell the hard lines would have cracked buy the rubber one could have/should have been replaced for a SS line from Goodridge if your going to change it. The Master and slave cylinder could have been rebuilt for alot less then the cost of the new assemblies. It only takes 15min each to rebuild them. As far as clutch shudder goes you would have been better off going with an upgraded clutch since the stock ones aren't worth a damn. Either way it shouldn't have cost anywhere near $1500. That dealer took you for a ride, a expensive ride.
If the clutch wasn't fully engaging and adjusting the rod behind the dash to the clutch master didn't work then it was likely the clutch master cylinder needed to be rebuilt. However they just replaced the entire assembly.

You could have bought a clutch kit with everything for far less then $1500. I think they screwed you on the price. It could have been done cheaper but it wasn't them paying for it so they didn't care. You can bet your *** if it was under warranty they would have found a way to make it as cost effective as possible.
