Poping out of first.
Ok.. I got about 1300 miles on my WRX and sometimes when I'm shifting from 1st to 2nd, I press the clutch in and try and shift into 2nd.. it just "pops" out like it wants to go into neutral on it's own.
Theres no grinding sound or anything. It's kinda of unnerving as it's my first manual..

I would have it checked. A new vehicle should not do that. The most common cause is a bad synchro ring. Have the dealer take it for a ride. If they can't duplicate it, have them ride with you so you can demonstrate it for them. They might catch something your missing.

I'll support the diagnosis being, perhaps, what can be referred to as a stubborn synchro ring...I don't know if it's fair to say it is "bad", because in all honesty synchronized transmissions were never designed to be ultra fast shifters...the synchronizer rings behave like a clutch after all...remember this vital FACT!

ive heard about some wrx's with that characteristic when new... same with popping out of 5th while cruising on expressways.
but not sure if there is a remedy for it... most seem to say it went away after a few thousand miles.
i had a problem sliding the lever into 5th until about 7k miles...so stubborn this tranny.
