notchy shift to second gear?
i recently noticed this notchiness shifting into second gear and i was just wondering if this is a common problem with wrx's? I'm not used to this notchiness shifting into second coming from an acura. Sometimes it goes in smooth but sometimes it feels like i'm shifting through some rocks. Anyone else have this problem?
and oh yeah, i'm still trying to get into reverse within 5 tries!

My shift to second is a little notchy too. I'm just used to it now.
Try shifting into 3rd then going directly into reverse. That sometimes helps. Or let the car roll a tiny bit and it should slip right into reverse. Give those a shot...

reverse is always hard to get on our transmissions. i'm not positive, but i think that there is a safety mechanism in the tranny that prevents people from doing a 5 --> R shift that can get in the way when you're at a stop.

The notchyness (is that a word?) definitely makes the 1-2 shift much slower than it used to be in my old Integra. I miss my Honda tranny (but that's all I miss about it).

Suby Tranny
The subaru tranny is fairly notorious for being anything but simple in terms of opperation slickness. The biggest influence for the buck that I have found was going with a short shift kit + shifter bushing kit. I used to HATE the shifting on my car, but after I put in my Kartboy gear, it was like it was like a completely different car. For its price, it is without a doubt the best thing you can do for your driving fun factor. Gear vagueness vanishes, and gears drop like you were shifting through a gate. Still one of my favorite mods so far, after almost 4 years. Also, real trick to never worry about grinding a gear going into Rev (as I was told WAY back in the day, and still practice) going 1st, 2nd, Rev. Since I started doing that, I've NEVER had Rev grind in 5 years. Dunno if the WRX's also have the tendency to grind shifting back into 1st after stopping.. hopefully not..
