notchy shift to second gear?

i recently noticed this notchiness shifting into second gear and i was just wondering if this is a common problem with wrx's? I'm not used to this notchiness shifting into second coming from an acura. Sometimes it goes in smooth but sometimes it feels like i'm shifting through some rocks. Anyone else have this problem?

and oh yeah, i'm still trying to get into reverse within 5 tries!

My shift to second is a little notchy too. I'm just used to it now.

Try shifting into 3rd then going directly into reverse. That sometimes helps. Or let the car roll a tiny bit and it should slip right into reverse. Give those a shot...

reverse is always hard to get on our transmissions. i'm not positive, but i think that there is a safety mechanism in the tranny that prevents people from doing a 5 --> R shift that can get in the way when you're at a stop.

I'm always experiencing this early in the morning when the engine is still cold. Shifting will become smooth when the engine temp rises.

shfiting into 2nd is notchy for me as well...i think it's fairly normal for our cars. reading all the 1st gear problems/failures, it's 1st gear that i'm worried about.

The notchyness (is that a word?) definitely makes the 1-2 shift much slower than it used to be in my old Integra. I miss my Honda tranny (but that's all I miss about it).
