No 2nd Gear....warranty on tranny??

I would assume you've stripped second gear. Since you managed to "break" your clutch in the past, and stripped gears are the result of abuse and never covered by Subaru under warranty, you're most likely out of luck. I'd suggest looking into some aftermarket gear sets and finding a place locally that will install them (and put some good gear oil in). At least you can still drive it, most people aren't so lucky when they send chunks flying through their transmissions.

yeah you are lucky to be able to drive it. I just had my car towed last night since I broke second gear and the shifter will not leave that gear either. Never had a clutch problem before in it. Its at the dealership now and I guess we will see what happens in the morning.

My clutch pivot is rusted, this is what this place called Suby Specialists said...Renik says that it's probably not under powertain warranty but I called up Subaru Service Support and they said it would only be under warr. if it wasn't because the way the car was driven. Any thoughts on this?

Fixing the clutch pivot requires taking out the tranny which would cost me ($625) if it ain't under warranty. They're probably giving me a hard time because I'm a girl. I took my car in 3 days ago, and hopefully I will find out what's up with my car soon. I'm just hoping I won't be jipped of my warranty. When my car is off, and I push the clutch in all the way, it makes a little grinding noise. That's what got me into wanting to figure out what was wrong with my car. Thanks for replying dude!

yeah I know what it entails, but if they try to blame rust on you that is bs. There is no way it will stand. Are you sure it is just rusted and nothing else is wrong with it? If there is something else wrong you would need to know what that is and whether or not you could have caused it. But for them dropping the tranny to do that work is not that difficult. I would just be persistant and they should fix it.

The guy at Suby Specialists was the one that said he sees that rusting problem a lot because it's pretty common. He pulled out this tranny that was on the floor and showed me what the clutch pivot was and pointed out that this one was rusted. He said that my clutch pivot looked like that and it was causing that grinding noise. So the rusting is not because of how the car was/has been driven then huh?
