new 05. double clutch to get into reverse????
it seems that 50% of the time I have to double-clutch to get into reverse on my 05 WRX (~500 miles). Is this normal? by the sound of it the reverse does sound like it is straight cut gear (wheeeeee), but even from a complete stop and plenty of time in neutral to let things settle? weirdness, but not a big problem, just curios if I should bring it to the dealer.
also a quick question, would wrx sedan fit 4 stock 16 inch wheels with tires in the trunk? (i want to go to tirerack and get new wheels, and take the stock ones home with me for snow fun)
cheers

Put the car in gear , any will do , and engage the clutch lightly , you do not have to move the vehicle .
This gets everything moving and will more than likely allow reverse to slip right in.

Just like every one else has said....no issue with the reverse. Now about fitting the tires, it shouldn't be a problem at all....just lay down the seats and pop the hatch...oh wait...you said trunk...
Sorry.
Just kidding.... post photos when you get the new wheels.

This is a timely post; I was going to post the same question. I just got back from a long trip in the car and was getting pretty frustrated with reverse not going in at times. So I would sit there and run it into several other gears before finally finessing the sucker into reverse. This cannot be normal, can it? If you're making a three-point turn on the road and get stuck there for a few seconds while a truck is barrelling down the road toward you, it sort of makes you **** your pants. Know what I mean?
So anyway, some of the posts so far implies that this is normal? Can anyone comment on this sticky reverse issue?
Thanks.

I can fit 3 in my trunk, i took out the spare and the pull up carpet, better than having tires in your back seat. When you put them in your backseat locate it on the passanger side so you can recline the seat all the way to keep the tire from moving. Todd

oh! 3! w00t! thanks for the research ;-)
as far as reverse - its not "normal" by consumer standarts, but 95% of people experience it - so thats a trait of the WRX - one of 2-3 small minuses we have to live with. I doubt the dealer could fix it - its a straight cut gear - so double-clutch, it works every time.
cheers

So for the double-clutching, how high do we rev the engine speed before we put it into reverse?
Thanks.

its more like a blip of the throttle - not holding the pedal down.
so clutch pedal up, gear in neutral - blip the throttle (to about 3000-4000 rpm) but the actual number depends on speed/gear in real life applications - for reverse 3000-4000 works well
clutch pedal down - shift, gas, go
