Car Info: 05 WRX wagon
Looking on advise
Hey all
i have a stage 2 05 wrx wagon. My tranny feels worse and worse all the time so I'm planning on what to do when it goes out. I'm not planning on getting more power out of the car, I use it as my DD too much so want to save mileage as much as possible. I was wondering what the mileage lose would be if I went with RA gears? I'm planning on keeping the car for a while and would like them but worried that they are going to mess up mileage. Also, if I get Ra gears would it be a good idea to upgrade clutch? Thanks in advance

well, anytime you go to a shorter gear set, you're going to runner higher RPMs, which will lessen your mileage.
the actual mileage loss is purely dependent on your driving. if you high rev and boost like crazy everywhere, then best of luck getting to the next city or gas station. if you baby it and drive it like you are 'grandma' then you can expect to get some decent mileage, regardless of which gear set.

My 05 WRX tranny was starting to grind etc..., but I switched to SWEPCO fluid that LIC Motorsports use and the grinding went away.
I regularly track and AutoX so I figured my tranny was on it's way out, but since the change to SWEPCO it's been all good. It needs to warm up for a few miles but once it's up to temperature it is really smooth.
