intermittent problems - grinding First gear.

Since my 30k service I've been having some intermittent problems with my first gear. After driving for a while, sometimes I grind first gear real bad (from stopped) when engaging - even if I have the clutch all the way in. This never happened before getting my 30k service, and now it's happened like a dozen times.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I have a 03 WRX Wagon with like 36k.

thanks.

This happens because the 5MT transmission is complete crap.

The syncros suck, the gears are weak, the case flexes.

I used to own an '02 WRX, and it did the 1st. gear grind, and it grinded from 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts.

I have an STi now and I'm finally satisfied with the transmission...

Is there any fix for this problem? Will warranty cover this?

Warranty: They will tear apart your tranny, inspect your clutch and tranny and if there is any sign of abuse (drag, auto-X, rally, ect) ANYTHING! I STRESS ANYTHING that they can constrew as a performance part, or anyway that they can tell that your car was abused they will void your warranty and you will have to pay for what they have done.

A cheap fix: 1 Quart of GM Syncromesh. Drain a quart out of your tranny and drop in a quart of that and it will make your tranny so much smoother. Try that out. If problem persists see above post

Cheers

I also recently had a service done (22k or something) at Subaru SC and I'm having this exact same problem. Before the service, it was hard to get into gear once in a while but it would never grind. Now suddenly (over night even) it's grinding every once in a while in 1st. And as you say at the most unexpected times, times when no car should grind, it's not like you can just be careful and keep it from grinding. I've been trying to figure out when I have time to make an appointment and take it back.

Left it with S.C. Subaru for two days, they say they can't reproduce the problem . . . I'll bet that no matter how careful I am I reproduce it on the way home . . .

Edit: yup, twice . . .
