Check.
The.
Spider.
Gears.
They're the gears inside the different carrier.
All it takes is one broken tooth on one gear.
You'll need the help of a friend to hold one or the rear wheels while you spin the opposite wheel.

I think (not that I know diff noises) but do you have a lightweight flywheel? if it was side or pinion gear noises it would do it in or out of gear ? but because you said it dont make the noise out of gear is weird. if not pm me and you can bring it to my work Ill look at it.

Ok, I can make it in Thursday morning, sorry I haven't been watching this thread, been real busy.
@boxerfxt: Yes, it does go away.
And yes, my car is still 100% Stock. And it is really really sounds like it IS a rear end noise, I even had a friend sit back there and he confirmed it sounded like it was coming from the trunk area.

I have had a rear end go out on my 442, and it is definitely not a pretty sound. But the fact is, that is still made a horrible sound in and out of gear. My car has made that same grinding sound with 2 of my clutches which I didn't take to a reputable shop. If it was the transmission itself, I have a feeling it would make noise in or out of gear since things are still in motion due to your wheels spinning while slowing down even in neutral. In my experience, it was a poorly installed or crafted throw out bearing. IT rattles when the car was in neutral and my foot not on the clutch pedal and makes a shipwreck of sounds on decel. So possibly could be that bearing.
