When I first got my car I noticed that gear grinding going into 1st gear. I had to adjust the way I drive, holding the clutch in a bit longer before you ease into first helps.

yep. so after hearing all the tips, i just hold the clutch in for a bit longer and haven't had any problems since. guess that's just one of those bugs that you just gotta live with. made me a paranoid driver though everytime i'm trying to get into first.

That's what I do. In my car, it is necessary to engage first slowly at a stop, or it will grind. The only time my car grinds in first now is if I get caught in neutral and I need to move quickly or if somebody else is driving my car. It's pretty ridiculous that the syncros in first are so bad on a model year 2002 vehicle.

My car does this too...very scary. I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow but the bastard said it might not be covered by warranty. There has to be a way to make the transmission stronger and more reliable...non-turbo subarus go forever with their trannies...its only the wrx that has sooo many issues.

I have had the same issue I just push the clutch in earlier and I shift into 2nd then into 1st.

Haven't had any problems since except for the occasional into 1st while moving.
