You gears are the same width as the RA Gears. Ratios are different but the strengths are pretty close. Just take it easy on your tranny launching slamming the gears and all that.

If you are really worried then upgrade to PPGs or STi 6 Speed. There are a lot of people here who have upgraded turbos on their 5mt.

What about 06+ WRX owners? Your final drive is 3.70 vs the previous year models' 3.90. This in effect adds 6% more load to your gears vs. previous years. While it's impossible to calculate this into the shock load formula mentioned above, it is noted that there are an increasing amount of 06+ owners with broken gears being seen here. So shift/drive kindly, investigate increasing your apparent final drive through smaller diameter tires, and temper your power modifications based on how soon you can afford to upgrade gears.
This was taken from Unabombers transmission fact.

IMHO, 99.9% of all tranny failures are due to operator error.
Yes, the gears aren't "as strong" as we'd like them to be, but ultimately, the operator is deciding factor how long the gears will last.

I have yet to get a tranny that "just broke".

Evidence of this can be found in Lowball's car w/ ~40k on the clock; very spirited driving with a TON of track miles without tranny failure.

A good choice for replacement gearsets can be found in the RA version.
Keeping your stock 5th gear helps with cruising speeds.

TBE, EM, VF39.

After I busted 3rd I rattled my *** home and started doing research. I was out a couple months bc I had also cracked my case so I had to order a new early-06 case.

Ryan aka woodward never really drove his car hard at all. I was in the car with him before when he did a WOT pull, shifted smooth and everything. Didnt pop the clutch, just one of those things is all.

Only time can tell i guess??

I've heard of stock 06-07's busting 3rd and I've heard of 20g protuned ones with the stock tranny running fine. I was doing some research and found a ton of WRXs made late 2005- early 2006 blowing 3rd more than the more recent ones.

The smart thing to do is have some extra cash saved up just in case you find yourself with a blown gear.

Did you ever change your tranny oil change before it blew?

I'd love to go to a bigger turbo but my advice is.. if ya can't afford a new tranny, don't do it. I'd be so screwed if my tranny blew. Bleh, makes me sick just thinking about it!
