There have been some incremental improvements to the 5mt the last couple of years. Haven't you guys noticed a lot fewer "I broke my tranny and SOA is a biotch" threads over the past few months? It seems to have been upgraded from "lousy" to "adequate- but don't push it." The XT has 4.44 gears, which contribute to its faster 0-60 time, but I haven't yet read the actual gear ratios. Lower gears would, of course, be harder on the gearbox than taller ones. Your drivetrain sees more stress in first gear on a stock motor than in second gear on a larger turbo like a VF30 or 22. Clutch dumps aside, of course.
