Flywheel help

I just got my clutch done in a 02 WRX. The build date is 01/02. I purchased a Fidanza flywheel to get put in with the Exedy stage 0 clutch. But after the install there was an interference issue with the shift fork and clutch cover. We determined the flywheel was too thick. On top of that the bearing would not stay seated in the center of the flywheel, the mechanic staked the bearing to get it to stay. The Fidanza flywheel I got was P/N 110001 which by everywhere I see is the correct one. Any ideas what went wrong here ? I had the stock flywheel resurfaced and installed but now im stuck with a flywheel that I cant return. Any help is greatly appreciated.

the only thing i can think of is if you have a 'pull' vs 'push' type transmission.

but, i do not know if that would have an impact on the flywheel.

with the fidanza flywheels, arent the friction surface plates removable? if so, you might have the option of exchanging the friction surface plate for a slimmer one from fidanza.

just a thought.
