questions about it, i here its called a glass trany? what the glass parts? what can i replace to make it stronger? help me out guys, cuz i dont know to much about transmissions... btw its an 02 wrx 5-speed!

 

I think everyone just means they break easy is all. That's my understanding and I could be very wrong.

 

i thought that but i was at the castle meet in dublin and a dude for i-club was there and he said it had to do with some parts, but he could be dumb. cuz i think the same thing you think, thanks

 

I'm sure there are parts within the transmission that are weaker than others is maybe what that person meant. What parts though? I couldn't tell ya

 

The 02-03 tranny's are referred to as glass trannies, because it doesn't take much to strip out the second gear. It doesn't handle power very well, even the stock power, and if you're a total jackass and don't know how to drive your car, it makes it even easier to strip it out.

The only real way of fixing or avoiding the issue (aside from intelligent driving), is a complete stronger gear set (RA is the most popular) or just a stronger 2nd/3rd gear set. And of course, you can swap out for the nearly bullet proof STi 6-speed as well.

So there is your answer, it's called a glass tranny because it breaks easy like glass.
