Does anyone know if a 5-speed transmission from a 2.2L Impreza will bolt up to a EJ20 wrx motor?

My buddy recently replaced a transmission in his Outback Impreza and I am thinking about rebuilding the old transmission with an RA Gearset if possible.

 

If you ever got that to work i got another question to ask you...

I just got a 1997 impreza 2.2l but it is automatic. Is it hard to convert to manual?

 

IIRC no they won't.

I think since it's a 2.2 as appose to the 2.0, it's gonna have different mounts.

 

Oh really? I thought virtually all EJ motors and transmissions are interchangeable...?

AFAIK changing an auto car to a manual, or vice versa, is not worth it. It's better to sell the car and buy the one you want...unless you're dropping a bunch of time and money into it doing a motor swap and everything anyways.

 

Ok, so it might be possible. Has anyone attempted this swap at all? or does anyone know of another tranny that will bolt up to the EJ20? Suggestions are welcome as to what route to go with the tranny too.


I agree, swapping over from auto to manual is going to cost you way more than simply selling and re-buying in manual.
