"dog" gears?
i keep reading that this type of gearset it the strongest theng you can do for your tranny but the noise is unbearable. How loud is it and are there any other drawbacks to doing this. most of the kits (including MRT) said that if it werent for the noise it could be used everyday. if i can have an indestrucable gearbox but have to wear earplugs to drive it I just might consider it

Dude you gotta here this!! I don't think that this is a dog box, but im pretty sure this tranny is indestructable. Larger teeth w/ a good amount of space straight cut gears sound somthing like this. hehehe w/ a cool slap shifter

Dog gears are indeed strong, but for the most part you'd be happier with an STi 6 speed for a street car. Aside from the noise, they have synchros, which keep you from looking like an idiot after grinding every gear shift (even though that doesn't really hurt anything in a dog box).

"Just a note for all who dream some day of having a dog-clutch racing transmission in their Impreza. Many street drivers believe their gearbox worries will disappear if they install a dog-shift gearbox. Actually, this is not quite true. Cost of ownership is much higher because dog-clutch gearboxes wear and generally are unusable after 30-50,000 miles road use. They are extremely noisy. They take skill and constant attention to properly down shift. Sitting at a stop light they sound like they are ready to fall out of the car. The straight cut gears whine like a hyper-bike, only much louder because of the larger size and they do not like to be shifted slowly - they actually suffer wear unless shifted quickly all the time. Probably not the best choice for a road car, but an excellent choice for a rally car."
Read this site, lots of good information that dispels rumors... And pisses of aftermarket companies that sell blow-off valves and such! :-)

i am watching/listenenig to it right know, dude that is awesome, i need one of those, especialy for the days you get in a fight with your girl, just get out on the highway, she'll agree then to probable just about anything to get the hell out of the car.
this trnny you could litterraly just jam the gears together as you drive, and have a boat load of power behind it. are the teeth in the gear set gigantic compared to a set for the same car of oem?
so the size is what makes them so high pitched and whiney.
