Difficulty shifting into all gears
I'm having real difficulty shifting into all gears when the engine is on. It all started really after I enter my car for service at this one shop. But it's so bad now that when I'm cruising/driving along I can't shift into any gears. What I end up doing is literally forcing the shifter to get into gear with horrible grinds and such. This is bad. It doesn't work if I try to smoothly shift it in as well. As for reverse, forget it. I have to shift into reverse first then start the engine. You can see the problem there if I'm doing a 3 point whatever.
Just today though, I've noticed something very strange when I have the clutch in gear and the clutch still pressed all the way down. The car moves! Now, if the clutch is still pressed all the way down, the car should be in neutral like state. So why is it moving? I don't understand this. Anyone can explain?
I have to note, however, that when the engine is off I can smoothly shift into any gears without much effort (Kartboys SS instaleld helps). I don't know if this matters much as I don't know myself. I've had a heavy duty ACT clutch installed about 2 years ago, but the problem didn't arise until I took it in for overheating.
Any help would be appreciated as I'm not familar with cars myself. I'm also thinking I need a new engine becuase of the loud knocking coming from it. It's there at idle and it's there all speeds, but louder at 30-40mph and 80mph. After 90mph though, it's quiet. Thanks beforehand for any advice.

Yeah, either the clutch is not releasing fully or not letting me engage it fully, if that makes sense. The clutch worked fine for about a month after the work and then it started to have this problem and has since gotten worse and worse. I've moved from MN to CA since then as well and had put quite a bit of miliage on the car. But I have been very careful driving the car as to not put more wear and tear into it.
I'm taking it in to the shop today to get it looked at and get the issue(s) fix if I can afford them. My car was running really good until I took it to the mechanic shop for a clutch repair. I mean really good as almost 5 years with NO PROBLEMS whatsoever. The overheating problem was due to all my traveling all over the western states and ending up in Washington, Redmond. I took it to a local shop there and they screwed it up even more. God, please for once in my lifetime let me find a honest mechanic shop!!!! *prays*
Thanks for the input.

The best way to avoid troubles with mechanics is to stay with them while they are working on your car, like not full watch over them and annoy them, just let them know that your there, my dad taught me that years ago and ive never had a problem with mechanics.
