Did I kill my transmission?

A couple of days ago I was taking a friend for a spin (read: being an idiot and punishing the car to show off) when I started having trouble.

In a nutshell, the car pulls fine under 3K RPM. As soon as it hits 3500, the engine races but doesn't pull again until the tach reads 5500. This happens in all gears, but I noticed it in 3rd first.

Did I bust my transmission? Or is something else at fault (clutch, maybe)?

Does not seem like a tranny issue. Please provide your mod list if you want a better answer.

Sorry! It's an '05 wagon, manual.

Mods are:

TurboXS TBE
Prodrive axleback
TurboXS UTEC

Kartboy shifter & bushings
Whiteline steering rack bushings
Cusco front & rear sway bars
Eibach springs
17" OZ Superleggeras w/ Falken rubber

Maybe a clutch problem?

About 15K, but I flog it* pretty hard.

I'll get it checked out - any recommendations on a replacement? OEM, or go with something aftermarket? I will probably go for a turbo/pump/injector/uppipe upgrade sometime in the next year, after I upgrade my brake pads/lines/fluid.

*the car, you pervs

I hear Exedy clutches are good. I'm going to go with one for my 2.5RS pretty soon. From what I'm told, the same company who makes the clutch (plate I think) for Exedy also makes the clutch hardware for Subaru and the OEM clutch in the WRX. Deacon or Deicon or something like that I think.

UTEC or clutch.

Swap back to stock ECU and see if it happens again.

Definetly sounds like a burnt clutch. Does it or did it ever stink real bad? If it is the clutch, I would vote for another oem clutch assembly.

An aftermarket clutch will have more clamping force, which IMO is not needed unless you are dragging/tracking the car or have way more power than stock. If you like to "flog" your car (dont we all!) more clamping force can put unneeded stress on the driveline. Then you may have some tranny problems. Good Luck

Definately sounds like a slipping clutch...but with only 15,000 miles?
That's a pretty harsh flogging for a clutch to be gone that early....Take it for a ride. Get on it enough to where you feel this (lag, or slipping) then pull over.

Get under the car and sniff...if you smell something horrid, that is not omething you would normally smell (ie Oil, gas, etc.) Chances are it's clutch. It smells somewhat like brakepads after they have been used hard and long.

Definitely has a distinct odor. I have a remote switch for the UTEC and dropped back to the stock map and still had issues.

I'm taking it in for an OEM clutch tomorrow. Thanks for the advice!

Is there any clunking noise or rattleing after you hit 6k?? It might be your Up-pipe if it is stock.. I am going through the same problem look at the last 11 posts. https://www.i-club.com/forums/engine-power-ej20t-pre-2006-wrx-jdm-60/engine-pings-runs-crappy-after-washing-car-ohcrap-what-jus-happend-125955/

I hope that this helps some.

It's definitely the clutch. Having it replaced today with an SPT clutch. Thinking of putting in a lightweight flywheel while they're in there, but I've heard bad things about lightweight (<12lb) flywheels causing misfires. Any truth to that?
