I haven't heard of a lightened pressure plate. I have heard that when you go with lightened flywheel you can lose torque. You may want to check on that.
My clutch has been acting normal since it stopped slipping. Haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet, car 61,000 miles. I may have the slave cylinder replaced. ???
Anybody have any thoughts??

clutch slipping
Drove the car today, it has been sitting since last Sunday night, today is Friday. Clutch slipped in 5th gear on the highway. It's going back to VT again tonight. I'll see how it is after the weekend. It seemed fine last Sunday night after it got back from VT.

Better the clutch than 2nd gear teeth! It is a wear item. From what appears on the lists, the clutch is good for the vast majority. Could be these few are actually defective.
Hard driving in my car so far has not caused it to be clutch challenged. Good luck people.

clutch slipping
Drove the car to central VT Friday night then up to Northern VT and back Saturday and home to Ct last night. Seems to have a small amunt of slipping in higher gears sometimes. Last night at a stop light, while it was rainning I gave it about 3500prm and dumped the clutch and all four tires grabbed and the car bogged, but the clutch did not slip.
I think I need to get a little more play in the top of the pedel. The clutch grabs really high.
Can I fix that by changing the slave cylinder?

Subaru's OEM clutches are notoriously poor in terms of consistency...some people get a good car, others don't. Our 2.5 RS project a couple years back would slip on hard shifts when the car was stock and broken in, while a friend of ours with a Minnam stage 2 kit (new at the time) was clicking off 13.0's on the stock clutch, no slipping. If you plan on the standard upgrades an aftermarket clutch should be considered...We're offering a package for Exedy clutch/flywheel combo:
Exedy Sport clutch kit (includes throw out bearing and alignment tool), Exedy 1 piece billet lightweight flywheel, and pilot bushing, just shoot me a PM if anyone is interested...

Thanks for your input. I have a Exedy clutch in my Honda Civic, that only has about 3000 miles on it. But I talked about that in a prevoius post.
I can't believe Subaru would continue to install clutches in a car that have a history of being weak. I know it is better to have a clutch that slips a little instead of braking drive line parts. But come on. 61,000 miles is way to early for this to be a issue.
I like the car for what it is, I bought it for the AWD, it is mainly a winter driving car. Most of its life is spent on the highway at speed. There is no way in my 30 years of driving sticks that this is normal. I have talked to Subaru and like most they say they can not duplicate the problem, so there is no problem...

Well, Subaru KNOWS there is a problem whether they will admit it openly or not (think of how many people have gotten replacements under warranty with under 40K, or even 20k or 10K in mileage?). It's just likely cheaper to warranty them for now than design a new clutch for most of their cars...

clutch slipping
I had a transmission shop R&R the SLave cylinder and hose per the Subaru TSB, that was for the dead clutch pedel. See that post on the Legecy forum. I also asked him if there was any adjustment he could make to the clutch. He said maybe he could do something with the pedel linkage to make the clutch grab lower.
The pedel now has about 3/4" of play at the top. I haven't had it on the highway yet, but even on the town roads it no longer seems to slip on top gear.
May be Subaru needs to learn how to adjust a Clutch pedel. But Ho yea, they say," there is no problem". There's nothing they can do because it's a hydraulic clutch.
Yea, I'm still not very happy with Subaru, but Honda doesn't make a AWD car that I would buy.
