Each time the clutch assy. Is replaced you should replace the T.O. Bearing.
Just a note the Subaru dealers have run out of fly wheels for the 2.0 WRX
L.O.L He He you guys are slamming us with work

picked up my car today...

-clutch engages close to the floor
-over all travel seems shorter maybe lighter

DEFINITELY feels like a different car.
DEFINITELY need to "re-learn" how to drive the car

BIG BENEFIT... shifting (especially downshifting into a corner) doesn't upset the chassis like it use to. just SMOOOOOTH!!!

Hopefully I can adjust mine back up... I like having the release high off the floor.

Perfect description, I drove my car a lot yesterday and that's exactly how I'd describe it too.

I saw a copy of the revised TSB but can't find it now. It listed out VIN numbers that were effected by model for one thing. Some other stuff but mostly the same. Wish I could find it again.

found it:

NUMBER: 03-51-02R
DATE: 05/01/03
APPLICABILITY: All 1999~2002MY and some
2003MY 2.5L Vehicles;
All 2002MY and some
2003MY 2.0L WRX Vehicles
SUBJECT: Cold Clutch Judder (revised bulletin)

INTRODUCTION
In the event you encounter a customer concern of cold clutch judder that goes away after the first few applications, replacement of some clutch parts will be necessary to repair the vehicle. Prior to replacing these parts, you should confirm the engine and transmission mounting is not broken, loose, or misaligned.

2.5L *
Use Clutch Kit: 32098AA020. This kit contains the following parts (and they can also be purchased separately):
Flywheel 12342AA061
Cover 30210AA590
Disc 30100AA851
Bolts (8pc) 800610740
* If the OE flywheel and cover has more then 30,000 miles on it and is in good condition, it can be reused. After 30,000 miles of driving, the surface finish is equivalent to the replacement flywheel and cover.

2.0L **
Flywheel 12342AA071
Cover 30210AA570
Disc 30100AA840
Bolts (8pc) 800610740
** 2002 WRX vehicles with an engine number of #331738 and after can also reuse the OE flywheel and cover if it is in good condition and has more then 30,000 miles on it. Vehicles
produced prior to E/G #331738 will need to install all 4 parts.

These countermeasure parts were installed into production as listed below:
STARTING VIN
LEGACY 2.5L
BAJA 36103910
SEDAN 36206712
WAGON 36305452
OUTBACK 36622108
Forester 3G732771

Impreza 2.5L
SEDAN 3G506077
WAGON 3G805549

Impreza 2.0L
SEDAN 3G500127
WAGON 3G800014

Vehicles after the listed countermeasure, or repairs to vehicles after the clutch set has been installed, can be repaired using individual parts as needed. Repair history should be checked
to determine what parts are currently in the vehicle. The parts system should be checked for any future information regarding these parts.

CLAIM REIMBURSEMENT/WARRANTY INFORMATION
For vehicles within the Basic New Car Limited Warranty coverage period, please refer to the Warranty Labor Time Guide for the applicable labor operation numbers and labor time. Please
use Fail Code JAB-48.

The part numbers they used on my car are DIFFERENT than either TSB!!! I hope it makes no difference.

I guess I can just keep using it until it fails. If the clucth fails prematurely, it MAY be due to replacement with faulty parts (why Subaru would keep the old bad ones in the inventory is beyond me). And they would need to replace it with the correct parts NEXT TIME. Regardless, I'll go longer without having to actually PAY for a clutch.

Just take it back now, if you got different part numbers, you WILL get the shudder again. Better to point it out now then to have to deal with them telling you the new shudder is your fault.

Well, I too have the evil clutch "judder" problem. After doing some research on i-club (thanks Black Wagon for starting this thread) I took the tsb into my dealer and requested he fix it. The dealer, Jim Keras Subaru of Memphis, told me that they would only replace the parts if they could duplicate the problem. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get them to fix my clutch when I live 45 miles away from the dealer and there is no guarantee that the problem will show up if I leave my car there overnight? Also, this may sound really whacky, but has anybody noticed the judder problem being more pronounced when the petrol tank is approaching empty?

The shudder problem is caused by the clutch absorbing moisture from the air... This shouldn't be rare in TN. I would leave it overnight and ask them to look at it first thing in the morning. Chances are they won't even have to leave the lot.

FINALLY had my clutch replaced under warranty after talking about it for 4 months. Jenson Subaru in Napa, CA did the work. They actually had the parts in stock, but I wonder if maybe it was a case of breaking out their 'secret stash,' on account of the severity of my shudder. Tim, the tech, said that not only did he feel the shudder, he couldn't even get it to go away by the usual method (burn it like Bobcat on Letterman).

So anyways, they also replaced my flywheel, apparently because of the severity of my shudder. No throw out bearing though, surprisingly. The new clutch feels like everybody else has described- softer, and lower to the floor. Very smooth engaging, which is good, since it's engaging so much sooner than I'm used to! Overall, I'm quite happy.

How do your part numbers compare to either of the TSB's??? Are they anthing like the one's I posted above???

When I get a chance, I'm gonna contact the dealer regarding the part numbers used on my car.
